> Who Is Doc
My name is Andrew Ian Lawson. Online, I often go by AI Lawson — partly because those are my initials, and partly because of the direction my work has taken.
People usually call me Doc. It started as a nickname intended to mock me at school. When I got to university, I decided to reclaim it for myself. Since then it's become something I'm genuinely proud of.
I learned to code aged 9 on the ZX Spectrum. By 11 I was writing Z80 assembly language, adding up binary by hand on paper and working through machine code one instruction at a time. That little nerd has never really changed.
I'm a Cambridge graduate with a PhD in Computational Quantum Physics and Chemistry. I've spent more than a decade teaching Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry, mostly online, helping students make sense of difficult ideas.
Now I'm building the next layer: AI systems, educational tools, automations and public notes from the journey. I don't just want to use AI. I want to understand how it works, where it breaks, and how it can be used to solve real problems.
